From childhood to adulthood, a healthy mouth needs proper care.  Daily brushing and flossing with a fluoride-containing toothpaste and rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash is recommended at least twice a day.  Just as important, though, is getting a professional cleaning twice a year.

A board-certified dental hygienist uses special dental tools for this cleaning.  First, is the scaling process to remove stubborn plaque that gathers at the gum line and in between teeth.  Removing plaque is important in preventing cavities (caries), periodontal disease, and gingivitis. The amount of scaling will vary depending on who diligent you have been brushing, but no amount of daily brushing will remove all plaque buildup.

Following the scaling, the hygienist will use a special toothpaste to scrub the teeth.  Chocolate or bubblegum flavors are available for this portion of the cleaning. This type of toothpaste should only be used twice a year to prevent damage to the tooth enamel.

Professional flossing and rinsing to remove any debris from the mouth are followed by an examination by Dr. Castello to check for any cavities or other obvious dental problems.

Patients receive a small goody bag with a new toothbrush, toothpaste, and some floss after each cleaning.  Come in today for your professional cleaning.
